10 Best Torch Light for 2019

Best torch light over dozens of competitive models from different brands listed below:

1. J5 Tactical V1-Pro Flashlight – Highly Rated, Well-Priced Product

More photo & price on Amazon.com

This immensely powerful tactical flashlight is our favorite for a bunch of reasons. The very first thing that impressed us was the weight balance of the device. While the body of the device is light, the handles feel solid in your grip, a feature self-defense experts would appreciate a lot. The flashlight delivers 300 lumens output which is decent, if not fantastic.

However, the beam has a throw of 600 feet which is one of the best in this segment. The zoom slide doubles up as a free moving front lens bezel. You can move the bezel forward to tighten and backward to widen the beam. The unit runs on a standard AA battery or a 14500 rechargeable battery. We kept the torch on at highest mode for over 30 minutes using a AA battery. The light did not flicker for once.

At Strobe mode, you can use the light for nearly 10 hours. One of our team members took this on a trekking and reported that on low settings, it gives a runtime of a whopping 20 hours. On top of that, there are cooling fins integrated into the flashlight to prevent overheating after prolonged use. Be it design, light output, features and overall performance, the J5 Tactical V1-Pro has scored consistently high in all departments in all the 3 consecutive years, see this online resources: detectorly.com

What we liked

  • 300 lumens output.
  • Powered by a single AA battery.
  • Weight balance.
  • Easily adjustable focus.
  • No-slip grip.
  • Great coverage.

What we didn’t like

  • Switching between 3 modes is a little time-consuming.

2. URPOWER Tactical Flashlight Super Bright CREE LED Flashlight Zoomable Tactical Flashlight Rainproof Lighting Lamp Torch – Another Top Pick

More photo & price on Amazon.com

URPOWER is one of the latest entries this year and packed with a decent number of features to compete for the title of the best torch light. This particular model is slightly smaller than the other flashlights of the same brand we tested. What is noticeable here is the width of the handle which results in a firm grip.

It comes with a rechargeable 2800 mah battery which slightly adds to the weight of the device. Not very suitable for EDC but definitely won’t be an issue with military personnel and outdoorsmen. The amperage drawn by the batteries is quite high. Therefore, our experts suggest using mid setting on most occasions.

Not only it will draw less power but the brightness is almost same as the high settings. We used the light to cover a ground of 80 yards. The test results were better than we were expecting. All the trees within that distance were visible. This led to the conclusion that URPOWER Tactical Flashlight is one of the best choices for cyclists, mountain bikers, and other adventure sports aficionados.

What we liked

  • Made from scratch- free aluminum alloy.
  • Great grip.
  • Adjustable focus lets you easily tighten the beam.
  • 80 yards of effective coverage area.
  • 5 light modes.

What we didn’t like

  • The battery draws high amperage.

3. Anker Super Bright Tactical Flashlight LC90 – Runners-up

The Anker LC90 is on the heavier side compared to the other models on our list. While this might pose a problem for EDC uses, the heavy-duty flashlight might double up as a self defense weapon for the survivalists. One of our testers accidentally dropped the flashlight on a concrete floor and guess what?

There’s wasn’t a single scratch on its body. With 900-lumens output, it is certainly one of the brightest of its kind. We also loved the second focus placed at the centre of the lens, helping to keep the beam pattern round even when it is out of focus. In the distance test, the device faired just as good as it was advertised. The round beam can cover about 100 yards of area effectively.

The flashlight comes with a rechargeable 3350 mAh battery along with a AAA battery option. At mid setting, the 3350 mAh Ni-MH battery lasts for about 2.5 hours while the AAA batteries will provide a backup of only 50 minutes. However, since charging the battery isn’t always a feasible option during emergencies, it goes without saying that you should always keep AAA batteries handy.

What we liked

  • 900-lumens output.
  • Solid construction.
  • Can be charged while keeping the battery inside the device.
  • Excellent ground coverage.
  • Second round focus on the lens.

What we didn’t like

  • Size and weight might be an issue for regular use.

4. Outlite A100 Portable Ultra Bright Handheld LED Flashlight – Editor’s Pick

The closely packaged design of this flashlight enhances its tactical ability manifold. Like almost every up-to-date flashlight, it also provides two battery options. Using the Li-Ion battery is more cost- effective than 3 AAA batteries. Plus, charging the Li-Ion battery is also a breeze.

We noticed a sleeve around the 18650 battery which makes the flashlight shockproof. Not only is the device fully waterproof, but the flat spot on the handle also ensures a great grip on the flashlight during rain. The full zoom is incredibly bright. So much so that you can get out of a probable nightmare scenario my pointing the light at your attacker’s eyes.

What we liked

  • Portable design.
  • Waterproof and shockproof body.
  • Dual battery options.
  • Extremely bright.
  • 5 light modes.

What we didn’t like

  • Batteries aren’t included.

5. GearLight LED Tactical Flashlight S1000 [2 PACK] – Best Overall

More photo & price on Amazon.com

At #5, we have another small and portable flashlight that’s best suited for taking your dog out for a walk and EDC applications around the house. At high settings, the light output of this tool is around 300 lumens which is insane for a compact flashlight like this. While the flashlight is safe to use in rain, fully submerging it can damage the light immediately. We tried it.

The unit runs on either 18650 Ni-MH or 3 AAAs. Inserting the batteries is pretty straightforward and hassle-free, thanks to two cages included in the package. The only bugbear to us was that we had to cycle through the first 3 modes in order to switch on the Strobe and SOS modes. You can easily pull the head forward to narrow the beam and at full focus, the beam pattern becomes a square instead of remaining circular which a slight letdown.

What we liked

  • Compact.
  • Extremely bright for a small device.
  • Dual battery options.
  • Water resistant.
  • Durable.
  • The focus is easy to adjust.

What we didn’t like

  • Square beam pattern at full focus.
  • Accessing the SOS and Strobe mode isn’t convenient.

6. Streamlight MicroStream Ultra-compact Aluminum body Torch Light – Best Overall, Runners-up

More photo & price on Amazon.com

The Streamlight Microstream torch is a pretty simple lighting device that you carry almost anywhere-from the confines of your house to a camping trip somewhere in the wild. It is just about the right size measuring roughly 3.5 inches and about half an inch in width. Don’t get swayed by its compact, Microstream is quite powerful for its size.

The torch is powered by one AAA alkaline battery and type II anodization aluminum setup for durable lighting. Streamlight Microstream is not the best torch by any means works very well for casual use. The friction-fit clip is pretty snug and can be attached to a cap or any part of the body.

Microstream is based on the C4 LED technology that guarantees extreme brightness and has a shake-proof construction for extra protection. The polycarbonate construction and O-ring lens add to the durability and grip. The AAA batteries run for roughly 2 and a half hours when fully charged.

What we liked

  • Shock, corrosion, and water-resistant body.
  • Minimum power consumption and extreme brightness.
  • Runs on only one AAA battery.
  • Ideal for EDC and use.
  • Fits snugly in pockets.

What we didn’t like

  • Cannot be momentarily switched on by half-pressing the button.

7. PeakPlus Super Bright LED Tactical Flashlight Zoomable Adjustable Focus 5 Modes Water Resistant Torch – Budget Pick

More photo & price on Amazon.com

The PeakPlus flashlight boasts a sturdy framework. It has an all-plastic construction that is unbreakable and scratch-proof. The torch runs on either 3 AAA batteries or the rechargeable lithium-ion battery, delivering high-quality performance for quite a long time. The PeakPlus flashlight is very versatile in its functionality. You can use it as a spotlight for focusing on a particular patch of ground or functions as a floodlight in case you want to brighten up a large area.

The plastic body is very compact, lightweight and portable, great for household use. We found the framework to be water-proof, anti-abrasive, ergonomic and pretty practical for outdoor use as well.

You can carry it for fishing trips, hikes, camping trips etc. The flashlight features different lighting modes depending on how much illumination you want. Adjust the focus of the lens, zoom in or zoom out for better visibility and switch between the five light modes- you can do it all that and more with this PeakPlus model.

What we liked

  • Rechargeable batteries included in the package.
  • Amazing clarity of light.
  • Well built.
  • Dual battery options.
  • Easily adjustable beam.

What we didn’t like

  • Not suitable for self defense purpose.

8. Streamlight 66118 Stylus Pro LED PenLight – Best Buy

More photo & price on Amazon.com

The slim, sleek and sophisticated Streamlight 66118Stylus Penlight is perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. It is so small you can fit it practically anywhere! The light is powered by C4 LED battery that has a runtime of roughly 6.5 hours. The body looks like a pen (hence, the name penlight. Duh!) and can be switched on by the push tail switch situated on the upper portion of the torch.

The 6618 Stylus Penlight is the latest launch that is great for anyone who needs a compact, durable torch at all times. Carry it for outdoor trips or use it indoors during a power crisis, the torch does not disappoint.

The polycarbonate construction is non-corrosive, water resistant and almost unbreakable. The flashlight runs on two AAA alkaline batteries and features an ergonomic nylon holster. Moreover, the advanced micro-optical technology only gives you the flexibility to optimize the output and runtime of the light more effectively.

What we liked

  • Looks light a pen, fits snugly in the pocket.
  • Long battery life.
  • Push button tail switch.
  • Made from top-grade aluminum.
  • The LED lights may last up to 30,000 hours.

What we didn’t like

  • Only good for everyday uses.

9. TaoTronics UV Flashlight Blacklight Torch – Also Great

More photo & price on Amazon.com

The TaoTronics torch advertises itself as the light that makes “the invisible visible”. And indeed that’s what the backlight flashlight does. The UV backlight can spot well-hidden marks, carpet stains, check for fake currencies, IDs, and other things that might not be visible to the naked eye. The TaoTronics torchlight is great for spying around, authenticating licenses or simply checking the carpet for urine stains.

The torch is very wide, lightweight and ergonomic to say the least. Anything and everything that is sensitive to ultraviolet radiations can now be visible. The TaoTronics torch works on a technology called phosphors- a substance emits a bluish UV radiation that helps you spot things you otherwise cannot.

Even the lenses are fairly larger and have better focus than most normal torches you’d find in stores. You can use the torch both indoors and outdoors, although it works best in darker environments. On the downside, the UV light can be harmful to the eyes and must be kept away from children.

What we liked

  • UV lights.
  • The 18650 battery provides a decent runtime.
  • Single button operation.
  • Comes with a wrist strap.
  • 3 AAA batteries included in the package.

What we didn’t like

  • The light flickers occasionally.
  • Not safe to be used around children.

10. STANLEY FATMAX SL10LEDS Rechargeable 2,200 Lumen LED Lithium Ion Spotlight – Also Good

More photo & price on Amazon.com

Stanley SL10LEDS are perhaps the most hardcore flashlights on our list today. The flashy yellow and black framework, wide lenses, shotgun-shaped construction looks very rugged, something you’d probably carry on a hike or inside a tunnel expedition somewhere. The 10W lithium Ion rechargeable LED battery has a capacity of 2200 lumens, bright enough to illuminate even the darkest of places.

The pistol-shaped body is pretty ergonomic and easy to handle, all you need to do is push the trigger lock situated just below the lens. The portable flashlight has a runtime of seven hours (if used in the lowest setting) and 1 hour if used to the highest of its capacity.

The battery retains its charge for about 12 months! Don’t worry though, the spotlight comes with an AC/DC charging adapter in case you need to charge the torch on the go. The torch weighs just 2.4 pounds and measures about 11 inches in length. Stanley SL10LEDS comes in handy in case of roadside emergencies or sudden power failures.

  • AC/DC charging adaptors.
  • 2200 lumens output, ideal for outdoor use.

I was a bit skeptical about Anker product but when it arrived and I put in a battery I was pretty amazed at how bright it was. Also you can make it zoom in.
